Affiliate disclosure
How this site is funded, and what that does and does not buy.
Flame & Flagstone is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you buy through a link here we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. That is the site's entire income. It buys no manufacturer a position on any list.
The plain-English version
Some links on this site go to Amazon. If you click one and buy something, Amazon pays us a small percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid arriving at Amazon any other way — the commission comes out of Amazon's margin, not off your total.
This is how the site is funded. There is no paywall, no advertising, no newsletter sponsorship and no sponsored content, and every page is free to read.
The required statement
Amazon Associates Program
Flame & Flagstone is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
How to tell which links earn
- Every buy button and product link earns. They are marked `sponsored` in the page's HTML, which is the machine-readable version of this disclosure, and they open in a new tab.
- A short disclosure line sits under every buy button — not only on the ones showing a price, and not only once per page at the bottom.
- Citation links to a manufacturer, a standards body or a government dataset earn nothing. Those are references. When we cite a retail listing as the source of a specification and that listing is one we also recommend, it routes through the same tagged link, because pretending otherwise would be the deceptive version.
- Internal links to other pages here earn nothing and are just navigation.
What commission does not buy
It does not buy a place on a list, a higher position, a softer verdict, or the removal of a stated downside. Commission rate is not an input to any ranking on this site. The methodology page sets out exactly what the inputs are, and the editorial policy sets out what would get a product removed.
We also accept no free product, no review units, no gifts and no payment of any kind from a manufacturer or retailer. The only money this site receives is affiliate commission on things readers chose to buy.
The conflict, stated honestly
A site paid on purchases has an interest in you making one. Pretending that pull does not exist would be less useful to you than naming it, so: it exists, and the counterweight is that everything here shows its working.
A recommendation built on published arithmetic can be checked by anyone, and a bad one is visible. That is a stronger guarantee than a promise of good faith. It is also why this site regularly recommends things it earns little or nothing on — a windbreak, a second cylinder, waiting for a sale, or simply moving your chairs out of the wind.
Prices
Where a live price appears on this site it comes from an automated data feed and is stamped with the date it was verified. Any figure older than 48 hours is suppressed automatically and the page falls back to "Check price on Amazon" instead. We never print a remembered price, and prices on Amazon change constantly — the number on the retailer's page at the moment you buy is the one that counts.
Your privacy in all this
Clicking an affiliate link passes an identifier to the retailer so a resulting sale can be attributed to this site. It does not tell us who you are, and we never receive your name, address or payment details. What this site collects covers the rest.
Questions
If anything above is unclear, or you think a link is not labeled properly, tell us at our contact page or info@flameandflagstone.com and we will fix it.
Programs we currently earn from
One, and it is the only one. We link to other manufacturers and retailers where they are the right answer for a reader, but we are not paid by any of them and those links earn nothing.
