Privacy policy
What this site collects, what it does not, and how to opt out.
We collect no accounts, no newsletter list and no personal profile. Two third parties see something about your visit: Google Analytics, and Amazon when you click a product link. If you email us, we keep the email. That is the whole of it.
What we collect directly
- Nothing, if you just read. There is no account, no login, no newsletter signup and no comment system on this site.
- What you type into the contact form — your name, email address, chosen topic and message. It is emailed to us and is not stored in a database or added to any mailing list.
- Anti-spam signals from that form. The form records how long the page was open before submission and your IP address is used to rate-limit submissions. Both exist only to stop automated spam, and neither is retained beyond the request.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It sets cookies and collects the usual: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser, and how you arrived. We look at it in aggregate — we are trying to learn that the coverage page is popular, not who you are.
We also record when someone clicks a buy button, as an event, so we can tell which recommendations readers find useful. The event records which merchant and which page. It does not record anything about you personally.
You can opt out entirely with Google's official browser add-on, or by blocking analytics in your browser or an extension. Nothing on this site breaks if you do — every page is static content and works fine with analytics blocked.
Affiliate links
Product links on this site go through our own redirect and on to Amazon with a tracking identifier attached, so a resulting purchase can be attributed to this site. Amazon then applies its own cookies and its own privacy policy, which we do not control and cannot alter. We never receive your name, address, payment details, or what you ultimately bought — only aggregate commission reporting. How the links work.
Hosting and logs
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and operational reasons, as essentially every web host does. Email is handled through Microsoft, which processes contact-form messages in order to deliver them.
Cookies, specifically
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, used to distinguish visits.
- Amazon's cookies, set only if you click through to Amazon, and set by Amazon rather than by us.
- No advertising cookies. This site carries no ad network and no retargeting pixels.
Your choices
- Block or clear cookies in your browser at any time. The site works normally either way.
- Use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on to be excluded from measurement entirely.
- Email us to ask what we hold about you, to have your contact-form message deleted, or to object to processing. We are a small publication and will simply do it.
Children
This site is written for adults buying outdoor heating equipment and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, this page changes with it, and the last-reviewed date at the top moves. We will not quietly add a tracker and leave this page describing a site that no longer exists.
